History
- Herceg Novi was founded by the Bosnian king Tvrtko I Kotromanic in 14th century, and originally it was named St.Stefan
- Turks invaded it in 15th century and they ruled on this territory until the end of 17th century, with the short break in 16th century when it was under spanish authority for 2 years
- It was liberated by the Venecians, and it was under their authority until the breakdown of the Republic of Venice at the end of 18th century
- After that, a lot of authorities (Austria, Russia, France) ruled on this territory for short periods of time, until the city became part of the Kingdom of Serbs, Croats and Slovenes
